Ask the council to reduce your council tax (sole name)

Use this letter to ask your council to reduce your council tax bill or council tax debt. Contact us for advice before using this letter.

You can choose to send a letter in your own name or in joint names. You may have a debt in joint names, or want to write to your creditors together because you have worked out a joint budget.

Application for council tax discretionary reduction
I am writing to you about my council tax bill/debt. I understand that you have the discretion to reduce my council tax bill/debt in part, or in full, under section 13(A)(1)(c) of the Local Government Finance Act 1992. This is separate to any entitlement that I may have under your Council Tax Reduction scheme.
Please accept this letter as my application for a discretionary reduction in my council tax. I confirm that I am the owner/occupier
